Kindergarten students have never been to school, so they don’t know what to expect. It is a very different setting from what they might have been used to at home, preschool, or daycare.
Reach out to your child’s school or their previous early learning center to ask what a typical day of kindergarten looks like. Have simple conversations with your child about things they might experience at school.
Even better, ask the school if you can bring them in and walk around before the crowded orientation day. Show them where you will drop them off, where they will eat lunch, etc.
Visit the Daviess County Public Library, located at 2020 Frederica Street in Owensboro, anytime between now August 9th and you will find a table set-up with information on kindergarten readiness to include books for your child and information for you as the parent.
While you are there make sure you have a library card and check-out some books recommended for rising kindergarteners!
