Day 23

Understanding Feelings

Tip

Transitioning to kindergarten can bring about feelings for families and children. It is important to allow your child to express feelings in a safe way.

Prompt your child to talk about how they feel as the first day approaches. Label feelings for children when they don’t have the words. Example: nervous, excited, scared. Embrace these feelings together.

Tool

Read Managing Feelings in the First Week of School from PBS to learn more about managing feelings.

Community Connection

Music is a great way to express feelings! The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum (The HOF) is a partner with OK Go! Drop by and play instruments in the Picking Parlor!

Admission to the museum is free for children ages 5 and under. The HOF is partnering with OK Go! to offer a discounted rate of $10 for adults.

The HOF is located downtown at 311 W 2nd Street. Come for a visit before August 8 – Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – closed Mondays.
